So I finally saw Harry Potter 5. It was good, like I expected, but y'know...
well here's the thing. I don't read the books, I've only seen the five
movies at this point. But I do happen to know from friends that each
of the books seems to be thicker than the last. Hence, each new movie
has to be more condensed, since the movies are already about as long
as they can get. As such, the latest Harry Potter movie was the most
condensed yet, and well... I think I felt it this time. The movies have
always been a bit fast-paced, but this was the first one I saw where
I felt that my understanding was definitely hindered by my not having
read the book. Thankfully I was sitting next to a friend who didn't
mind answering my questions as they came up, but what if she hadn't
been there? There would have been a lot of subplots that I wouldn't
really have gotten closure on, like the one about the girl that Harry
has a crush on. Actually I was a little surprised in that one, I really
thought she'd be hotter than that. Right about now my friends would
likely comment that I would know, as they maintain that I am an expert
on asian chicks... don't ask. But I suppose I can't blame Harry, as
when I was in highschool I certainly had crushes on uglier Chinese girls
than she. But I digress. The movie was pretty good, but if you don't
read the books, you should probably see it with someone who has. (Of
course if you're less lucky than me, they may want you to save your
questions till the end of the movie.)
Also, upon exiting the theater I noticed that there's an Alvin
and the Chipmunks movie coming out. I was dismayed by how gangsta
they looked on the poster, but thankfully they don't look like that
in the movie. (I was about to have to add it to my infinitely long list
of reasons to doubt Hollywood's judgement.) Jason
Lee is playing Dave, and while he's a good actor, I would have chosen
someone less cool. He just doesn't seem dorky enough to be Dave. The
one thing that really bothers me is that it seems that they have reduced
the chipmunks to actual chipmunk size. The cartoon chipmunks were about
two-to-three feet tall, and well... that means that them NOT being that
size is wrong. Just wrong. Oh well. Anyway if you're curious, the website
pretty much only has a preview at this point. It contains a poop-joke
that I didn't write. I know, I was surprised too.
And on a final note, I realize that the title of today's comic really
has nothing to do with the comic. I don't know either.
